The award recognizes the leading privately funded companies that are based in the United States and Canada. iovation CEO and founder Greg Pierson accepted the award on behalf of the company during a ceremony in San Diego, California on June 3.

The Red Herring editorial team analyzed about 1,200 cutting edge companies for this year’s North America Top 100. They looked at twenty major selection criteria including the candidate company's addressable market size, trailing revenues and management's expertise.
Red Herring recognized iovation for its sustained growth and strong expansion potential. This specifically included iovation:
- Increasing its overall customer base by 25 percent. This includes new customers in every industry iovation serves and most notably in financial services, gaming, retail and insurance.

- Making major updates to its mobile software development kit (SDK).
